WHO ARE REPATRIATE THE CHILDREN?
Repatriate the Children - Denmark is a children's rights non-profit organization.
Our non-profit works towards repatriating children with ties to Denmark, who reside in the Kurdish-controlled detention camps in Syria or are in other ways affected as a result of the conflict with the Islamic State.
RTC - Denmark supports and counsels the children and their families before and after their repatriation.
We collaborate with a large number of Danish and international organizations to ensure that governments and relevant authorities live up to humanitarian principles and protect the children's rights.
Our long-term goal is to completely disassemble the detention camps, where over 20,000 children are detained indefinitely under inhumane conditions.
JONAS AND HIS MOTHER ARE NOW HOME
After more than five years of confinement in the Syrian detention camps, Jonas has now returned home to Denmark with his mother. It has been a long battle to bring him home, and we are deeply grateful for the support we have received along the way from our members, partners, and volunteers.
In the time leading up to Jonas’ return, we worked to ensure it would be a positive and safe experience for him. Unfortunately, things have gone far from how we had hoped.
To create the best possible conditions for the rehabilitation of the families, it is of the utmost importance that the authorities focus on the best interests of the child during the entire repatriation process.
In this report, we have compiled the Danish experiences and recommendations based on RTC - Denmark's contact with the families that have been repatriated to Denmark.
